Learn Practical Self Defense
We will guide you through the study of Kenpo, Jujutsu, Modern Martial Arts, and Kinetic Studies in Richmond Virginia. You training will include an in-depth study of the principles, concepts and martial applications of self-defense.
Our approach to training is to ‘Teach Individuals, Not Styles’.
Our focus lies in developing intuitive and intelligent conditioned reflexes within each student as they learn how to navigate themselves through physical aggression in the most efficient manner.
With each class you will steadily increase your physical conditioning, improve your coordination, and quicken your reflexes as you begin developing your knowledge of kinetic principles.
Beginning with your very first lesson, you will start to learn how to deal with the basics of practical self-defense and self-protection through a study of movement.

KRMA offers you an in-depth study of body movement and human performance. It is a method by which you will learn intelligent adaptability through a study of applied principles, concepts, and self-defense applications from several martial arts systems. You will learn how to move efficiently while using various parts of your anatomy to strike, to manipulate and to control physical aggression from standing, kneeling, and ground positions.
As your training advances, you will develop a macro understanding of dynamic human motion and learn to move in ways you thought not possible.
Every one develops at their own pace. Knowing this, every instructor and student at KRMA encourages each other to learn as much as they can in any one lesson, but to move only at their pace. A student’s development is in relationship to the art not to other students.
You will learn through isolating skills down to their basic mechanics, improving and rehearsing these skills not through rote memorization or blind repetition of techniques as with most systems, but through free-flowing, dynamic limitation drills that teach adaptability from the foundation of training. From there, you will learn to integrate these skills with intelligence and specific objectives into integrated skill progressions, building body intelligence, improving reflexes and reducing fear in physical encounters.

Training at KRMA is practical for today’s unpredictable environment. It is a highly efficient and practical approach to self-defense for both men and women. Your training will include a curriculum of striking, throws, locks, ballistic breaking, weapons defense, and working from the ground to name several.
We believe that learning martial arts is not only about developing the mind and body but being able to survive social aggression and asocial violence.
Unlike most systems of martial arts where you are forced to fit the system, our Kenpo based method is tailored to the individual.
Your training teaches you to develop a natural responsiveness by tailoring your movements to varied scenarios, while learning to regulate force proportionate to the level of threat.
Women training will have an edge by carrying the self-confidence and awareness taught to them in to their everyday lives. Workouts are structured to the individual student so they practice and train at their own pace. All classes are taught with utmost safety in mind so the student doesn’t need to worry about injury, they just work on gaining results.
Students are never compelled to do anything which makes them feel uncomfortable.
The great thing about our classes is they are like an exercise program with a bonus! You’ll learn to defend yourself while improving your physical endurance. You will enjoy a diversity of activities designed to develop awareness, confidence, speed, power, natural movement, flexibility and strength.
You will never feel out-of-place because everyone works at their individual level. We know most people have never taken martial arts, yet you will find our instructors to be patient and totally committed to you getting the most out of each class. More importantly, you will enjoy being part of our fellowship.
The purpose is to improve the student’s awareness and reflexes, while developing their instinctive responsiveness to a chaotic environment. In many martial arts schools this element of training is often neglected or illustrated through static responses or pre-arranged sequences of movements.
You may not be able to avoid a violent physical assault but you certainly can alter the outcome. You don’t have to be a victim, it’s a choice.
